University Mental Health Day 2020

18/03/2020

Following the success of last month’s Wellness Event at our Mill Street development for Time to Talk Day, here at Unipol we hosted another event at the offices for University Mental Health Day.

Therapists from local yoga studio We Are Wellness joined us for the day, offering back, neck and shoulder massages, acupressure and aromatherapy, and a mindfulness session for both staff and students. Free breakfast pastries and hot drinks also went down a treat.

The day aimed to give students and staff some respite from work and studies, and provided a space to engage with each other without distractions and these outside pressures.

Mindfulness is:

“Awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally.”
– Jon Kabat-Zinn

Practising mindfulness has been proven to help improve both mental and physical health.

By concentrating less on things that have happened in the past or worrying about things that might happen in the future, training ourselves to bring our minds into the present more often can help to relieve stress and can equip us with ways to more productively tackle difficult situations.

You can find more information about mindfulness, including some exercises to try yourself here.

Thank you again to We Are Wellness for making our University Mental Health Day a success; we loved having you and I’m sure we’ll be seeing you again! Check them out here.
