I have lived in Bradford in the same village since 1948, apart from going away to University to study. Having graduated at London University Queen Mary College I worked in the Physics Department of Leeds University and in 1990 transferred to Engineering at the University of Bradford. I was head of department for a number of years but now run the Bradford Robotic Telescope team which is a world leading education and robotics programme.

In 2007 I found myself living alone in a large house. I had always wanted to offer accommodation to visiting colleagues and some of the wonderful students we have at the University of Bradford now it was possible. My main lodgers are staff members and research and postgraduate students from all over the world. We share the cooking with each of us taking it in turn to deliver a meal. Some are the product of directions from a distant partner via Skype and some are the product of really excellent cooks. We all improve and greatly enjoy eating together and learning about the culture and life of different parts of the world. 中国人欢迎来我的家.

Since covid started I have worked at home and when necessary we divided the house up. I live on two bus routes that go past the University. For those who like to use a car, there is plenty of parking space around my house, some of it off- road. Inside the house I provide all the basics including all necessary bedding and some food with the Internet and TV provided in every room.

I am a keen runner, running around our lovely countryside most mornings and am just installing a sports room with a rowing machine. I have travelled widely in China and am currently learning Mandarin and I would welcome someone to talk to around meal time or running up and down our Bradford hills. I also work closely with the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

I want my lodgers to do really well and so there is lots of common relaxation space in the house and two large gardens, where I encourage all to have a go at growing something. I am hoping to enter the local horticultural show with some enormous sunflowers that my Chinese lodgers showed me how to grow.
