The Safer Leeds – Safer Homes Security Standard was launched in summer 2016 and covers private rented sector housing in a pilot area in North West Leeds.
The aim is to introduce a voluntary security standard for properties, which will bring mutual benefits to landlords, agents and tenants involved in the private rented sector in Leeds. Landlords will be able to join a standard based both on national and local good practice for home security, based on the Secured By Design standard.
Landlords with student properties in Leeds, who are members of the Unipol Code, will already achieve the Bronze level of the Safer Leeds - Safer Homes standard, and can seek to achieve higher levels of security at either Silver or Gold Standard. When landlords sign the Unipol Code declaration, there is an option to join this new standard at the same time.
The Safer Leeds – Safer Homes Standard has been produced through a partnership approach, involving input from colleagues in Leeds City Council, Leeds Trinity University, Private Rented Sector in Leeds, The University of Leeds, Unipol Student Homes, Safer Leeds, and West Yorkshire Police.
More information about the scheme is available from the Safer Leeds website.
