Who the Accommodation is For
This development is for students with families and for student couples. Due to the size of properties, this site is suitable for families with 1 child or with 2 young children.
Allocations are normally reserved for students registered at the University of Leeds. Click here to check if you are eligible.
The accommodation comprises 32 two-bedroom flats or apartments; 24 for small student families and eight smaller ground floor flats for student couples without children, or for families with a young child.
The property is situated on the edge of the University of Leeds campus. Click here to view an external tour of the development and surrounding area. You can also see the location of the development and surrounding area on Google Maps.
The city centre is easily walkable from the accommodation, some 10 - 15 minutes for an adult.
Woodsley Terrace and Mount Preston Street is a four-storey terrace of Edwardian houses owned by the University of Leeds. The houses were renovated to a high standard in 1996 specifically to provide suitable accommodation for students with families and couples.
Unipol are currently undertaking a programme of works at Woodsley Terrace and Mount Preston Street that are expected to complete in 2023. This includes:
- Undertaking stonwork replacement or repairs to the front of the building, including some works on the steps to the main entrances and railings.
- Refitting all of the bathrooms across Woodsley Terrace and Mount Preston Street.
- Refitting flats 1, 4, 10, 14, 17, 20 and 23 Woodsley Terrace so that the kitchen and lounge areas become integral and we shall restore the lounge/kitchen ceilings with improved lighting and ventilation.
The bathroom and ground floor flat kitchen/lounge works, canonly be undertaken when flats are empty and so it will be necessary to refit flats as they beceom vacant or to move families around the building so that we can work on a couple of flats at a time. Unipol will let you know when a flat that has had its bathroom refurbished is available for you to move into, and will agree a move date with you.
For information on rent, please visit our Unipol Housing site.
Tenancies at Woodsley Terrace and Mount Preston Street begin on the 1st August each year and run for 12 months until 31st July the following year. Current residents are offered the chance of renewing, so long as their studies are ongoing.
As shown in the floorplan below, each flat has two bedrooms (one double and one single), a living room, bathroom and kitchen. Please note: the layout of flats does vary, please ask Unipol for a floorplan of a specific flat if you'd like to see this.
The flats offer a high standard of amenities, including energy efficient gas-fired central heating systems, well-designed kitchens and modern bathrooms. Windows are fitted with secondary glazing to help with energy conservation.
The internet service is provided by the University of Leeds and links directly to the University network. The cost of the internet is included in the rent.
Telephone sockets (subject to reconnection to the network at the tenants' expense), are fitted in each flat. A Smart TV is included and installed in the lounge, because the building is Grade II listed (a protected status operated by the government for buildings with significant heritage value), tenants are not permitted to fit satellite dishes or install cable television to the building.
All flat are equipped with functioning hard-wired smoke alarms. Ground floor flats are fitted with intruder alarms.
The building is covered by external CCTV. Cameras are located on each corner of the building. The public display monitor, showing the CCTV footage, is located in the communal entrance to Flats 14 - 16 Woodsley Terrace.
Ground floor flats on the Mount Preston Street side of the development have their own entrance, which opens from the flats onto a block-paved walkway. All other flats have a communal main entrance with electronic door entry systems.
Living rooms are fitted with two sofas, a coffee table, and dining table and chairs. An ironing board, vacuum cleaner and plastics (including a dish drainer, washing up bowl, mop, bucket and toilet brush), are also provided. Irons and microwaves are not provided.
The master bedroom is fitted with a double bed and the second bedroom with a single bed. Both bedrooms have wardrobes and drawers for clothes storage, a desk and desk chair are provided - sometimes you'll find this in the master bedroom, if not they will be in the hallway or lounge.
